Taro (Cocoyam) is most commonly grown for its starchy edible roots which are consumed after boiling, frying or roasting. The corms can be dried and used to make flour or sliced and fried to make chips. Taro is an excellent source of fibre and resistant starch, which accounts for many of its health benefits, such as improved heart health, blood sugar levels, body weight and gut health. Its flavour is something of a cross between a chestnut and a potato–starchy, sweet and a bit nutty.
